Former U.S. President, Donald Trump, has stated clearly that he isn't trying for a third term in office, which is against the constitution, even though he's mentioned the idea in public before.
In an interview shown on Sunday, May 4th, on NBC's Meet the Press, Trump told the interviewer, Kristen Welker, "This isn't something I'm trying to do," when asked about the possibility of a third term. He added, "I'm aiming for four brilliant years and then to hand it over to someone – preferably a top Republican – to continue the work."
Trump's remarks come after some people started wondering, because he'd been talking about it at recent rallies. Although the U.S. Constitution says presidents can only have two terms, Trump's occasional comments about a third term have worried and been criticised by his opponents.
The interview was filmed during Trump's visit to the University of Alabama, where he gave a speech to the graduating students at Coleman Coliseum before the school's graduation ceremonies.
