PMAN Appoints Sydney Sparrow as Acting Leader Following Pretty Okafor’s Suspension

The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has appointed Mr Sydney Sparrow as its new National President.

The news was shared on Friday in Owerri by the association’s National Treasurer, Mr Baba Ojonugwa. He explained that Sparrow was chosen to lead after the previous president, Mr Pretty Okafor, was suspended from his post.

“The decision was reached at an emergency NEC meeting convened on the night of Dec. 25, 2025, to address serious governance and constitutional concerns affecting the association.

“Acting in line with the powers vested in it by the PMAN Constitution, the NEC resolved to suspend the President pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary process,” Ojonugwa said.

Mr Ojonugwa explained that the leadership decided to act because the former president had repeatedly broken the association's rules and abused his power. He was also accused of ignoring proper procedures and acting in a way that harmed PMAN’s reputation and the well-being of its members.

As a result, the committee decided to cancel all appointments made by the former president without approval. They also brought back the National Treasurer and ordered a full check of the association’s bank accounts and business deals. Finally, they appointed an Acting President, as required by their rulebook.

“In the meantime, Sydney Sparrow, PMAN Governor, FCT, has been nominated as the Acting National President of PMAN National,” he said.

He promised members across the country that these changes were made to fix problems, not just to punish anyone. He also made it clear that the leadership is dedicated to being honest, responsible, and looking after the best interests of Nigerian musicians. (NAN)
