The Reckoning: Diddy Slams Netflix Documentary as 'Shameful Hit Piece' and 'Illegal'

Music boss Sean "Diddy" Combs slams Netflix after the platform unexpectedly announced a four-part documentary about his life called The Reckoning, which is due to be out on December 2nd.

Combs, who is currently in prison serving a 50-month sentence after being found guilty of federal trafficking and racketeering charges, gave his opinion via a spokesperson. He called the series a "shameful hit piece". His team also claimed that Netflix used stolen and footage they weren't allowed to use, including private recordings which he says were never meant to be seen by the public.

According to his spokesperson, Combs has been recording his life since he was a teenager, with plans to tell his story himself. They claimed that Netflix wrongly used the material without his permission, and suggested that the producers relied on clips containing private chats and incomplete content created before his charges were filed.

The filmmaker behind the project, however, says that all materials used were got legally through the correct methods, insisting the production team had every right to the footage shown in the series.

Making the situation more tense is the involvement of rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson – a long-term enemy of Combs – who was an executive producer. Diddy’s team called Netflix’s choice to include him “staggering,” accusing Jackson of holding a personal grudge for a long time.

Netflix hasn't made any public comment beyond releasing the series trailer, which includes the voiceover: “You can’t continue to keep hurting people and nothing ever happens.”

The documentary is promising material no one has seen before, special interviews, and an investigation into how Combs rose to the top in the entertainment world and his later ruin.
