Trey Songz Arrested After Alleged New York Nightclub fight

R&B singer Trey Songz has been arrested in New York after an alleged fight with a nightclub worker in the Times Square area of Manhattan.

The 41-year-old artist, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was taken into police custody following a fight at the Dramma Night Club in the early hours of December 4. Prosecutors told a Manhattan criminal court that the singer became "needlessly angry" after a member of staff told him the club was shutting at around 4:25 a.m. During the row, Neverson is accused of punching the employee in the face.

Neverson went to court on Sunday, where he was formally charged with assault over the nightclub incident. He also faces a separate charge of "second-degree criminal damage" relating to an unconnected event later that morning at Mira, a Manhattan restaurant and hookah lounge.

Court documents state the second incident allegedly involved the destruction of roughly $1,500 worth of items, including hookahs, DJ equipment, and furniture.

The singer was released on bail without having to pay a deposit and attended court wearing a black face mask. Prosecutors asked for, and the court approved, a restraining order to protect the nightclub employee. Authorities pointed out that Neverson often goes to the club.

His lawyer, Mitchell Schuster, challenged the prosecution's version of events, claiming the situation became heated after his client was "egged on" or provoked.

He claimed that Neverson’s security team stepped in to defuse the situation. “His security intervened to protect him and contain the situation, and an altercation occurred in the ensuing confusion,” Schuster said. “Despite being the target of the initial provocation, Trey was arrested.”

Schuster also suggested his client was unfairly targeted due to his public profile. “Public figures are often treated as targets for instigation in pursuit of headlines or financial gain,” he said, adding that the singer is “cooperating fully in both matters” and remains confident that “the full context and facts will come to light.”

The judge allowed Neverson to be released under supervision, mentioning his past legal issues as a concern, and instructed him to come back to court on February 18
