Film producer and a content creator Cynthia Shalom says that Nigerian viewers want more than just fun. In a recent interview, she explained that people are looking for stories that are honest, meaningful, and easy to relate to. She believes it is important to make content that truly connects with the audience.
In her words; “I believe Nigerian audiences need more honest and meaningful content—content that is real, not just perfection,” Shalom said. “We already have entertainment and trends, but people are craving stories they can relate to: about love, struggles, identity, growth, and everyday experiences. Content that makes you laugh and feel seen. Creators who focus on authenticity and value will always stand out.”
When talking about trends and how she presents herself, Shalom said the most important thing is to be yourself and stay honest about who you are.
“Trends are temporary—they come and go—but my values and personal brand are long-term. So, I really don’t feel the need to jump on every trend. I choose what aligns with my message and my voice. Consistency and honesty matter more to me than quick numbers. When you stay true to yourself, you attract an audience that genuinely connects with your content, and that connection lasts beyond algorithms.”
Offering advice to emerging creators, she added: “Focus on purpose, not pressure. You don’t need to shock people to be relevant. Be clear about what you stand for, create with intention, and stay consistent. True storytelling and originality will always outweigh controversy.”
