Nigerian-British Businessman Dies After Penis Enlargement in Thailand

A 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has passed away after undergoing a penis enlargement procedure while on vacation in Thailand. A UK coroner’s inquest ruled that the cosmetic intervention directly caused a fatal pulmonary embolism, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Ubiribo, widely known by the monikers “Tiny,” “Denisi,” and “Ego,” was visiting Bangkok on a luxury holiday with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, when he elected to undergo the operation. 

In March, an unnamed local clinic injected 40 milliliters of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine into his penis. Following the appointment, Ubiribo and his wife attended a massage session at their hotel, the Bangkok Marriott. During the treatment, he experienced severe chest pain and lost consciousness twice. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he was initially responsive.

According to evidence presented at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court, Allen alerted attending physicians to her husband's recent filler procedure. Suspecting a pulmonary embolism, medical staff recommended an immediate CT scan. However, Ubiribo collapsed before the scan could occur and was rushed to the intensive care unit, where medical staff performed CPR for over 100 minutes before he passed away in the early hours of March 6.

A UK postmortem examination revealed cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used in the filler. Pathologist John du Parcq confirmed that these findings aligned with both the Thai autopsy report and a diagnosis of fatal pulmonary embolism—a life-threatening blockage of the pulmonary arteries that restricts blood flow and induces severe cardiac strain. Coroner Jean Harkin officially ruled that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic procedure. Ubiribo’s London primary care physician noted during the inquest that while the patient had a history of joint surgery, gout, and pre-diabetes, he possessed no other major underlying medical conditions.

Hyaluronic acid injections are commonly marketed as non-surgical options to temporarily increase penile girth, with effects typically lasting several months before natural absorption. However, medical experts continue to warn against significant, potentially lethal complications linked to injectable cosmetic fillers, which often cost thousands of dollars.

Ubiribo maintained a follower base of roughly 185,000 on Instagram, frequently showcasing an affluent lifestyle that included a $1.1 million residence in Los Angeles and a $600,000 apartment in London. He wed fashion designer and socialite Danielle Simba Allen in a high-profile 2022 wedding in Zimbabwe. Following his death, Ubiribo was laid to rest in London in a gold casket valued at over $600,000. Attendees included childhood friend and Afrobeats artist Davido, who delivered a speech expressing profound shock and praising Ubiribo's vibrant energy. The case has drawn renewed attention to the severe risks associated with invasive cosmetic procedures using dermal fillers.
