Judge Orders Man to Vacate Home After Squatter ‘Friends’ Occupy His Garage and Refuse to Leave
A judge has ordered a homeowner in Kentucky, USA, to vacate his home following a dispute with alleged squatters who refused to leave the property.

A judge has ordered a homeowner in Kentucky, USA, to vacate his home following a dispute with alleged squatters who refused to leave the property.
Across the US, reports of squatters are increasing as many homeowners feel their rights have been restricted since the COVID pandemic and a surge in tenant protections.
A man who offered his visiting friends his garage to work on their car after it broke down has now been compelled to leave his house after they refused to depart.
Homeowner Daniel Toma stated that the pair of friends were visiting him during the summer when their car broke down. He offered his garage as a place for them to stay while they worked on it.
“I just want this nightmare to end. I’ve been homeless the last few days,” Toma told WSAZ 3.
The reported squatters were Toma’s friends, Amy Davis and her boyfriend, Tyler Sencuk.
‘Working on the car for days in the driveway, I didn’t want to throw them out on the street. I was trying to be kind,’ he said.
However, in mid-July, the couple brought a mattress into the garage, set up a Spectrum box, and then changed the locks. They eventually began receiving mail and refused to leave, informing Toma that they had ‘squatter‘ rights.
Toma stated that he did not want them to be there and that he had not received any rent payments.
‘I asked them to go, my roommates asked them to go, they wouldn’t leave.’
‘We tried to tell them to leave.’
Around Labour Day in the United States, Toma issued a 30-day eviction notice, which further escalated tensions and prompted the squatters to become increasingly angry.
Sencuk and one of Toma’s housemates then became involved in a confrontation, resulting in Sencuk applying for an emergency protective order against Toma.
According to Fox 19 news, once the protective order was granted, Toma was required to remain 500 feet away from them or his house.
The protective order stated that Toma was Sencuk’s housemate. He informed the judge that he paid rent in the form of ‘maintenance,’ and the judge accepted his word.
‘I feel like I have no power. I feel like I have no rights,’ said Toma, who has an upcoming court date to challenge the protective order, ‘I just want to sleep in my own bed.’
Ryan McCall, principal of McCall Sweeney & Silva, PC and an expert in eviction law, told Newsweek:
“Unfortunately, what is occurring here is all too common when it comes to squatters in the United States,”
“Almost every state has its own individual laws regarding Squatters. Unfortunately, once a squatter is able to assert their rights, they often can resort to filing criminal reports against the actual Homeowner to temporarily remove them from the property.

American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is facing yet another damning lawsuit, this time with over 100 people suing him for sexual assault, rape and sexual exploitation, among other charges.
According to BBC News, Texas-based lawyer Tony Buzbee announced that he and his firm would be representing these victims, stating that some of the alleged victims were minors, abused as young as nine years old.
The claims also include a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly drugged and raped at a party in New York City. Buzbee alleges that such events, including album launch parties, New Year’s Eve celebrations, and Combs’ infamous ‘White Parties’, were often the venues for these alleged assaults.

During the press conference, Buzbee alleged that around 3,000 people contacted his firm to represent them against Diddy. After thoroughly investigating their claims, they shortlisted 120 individuals.
“All were seeking either TV or some sort of music career with promises of, you know, ‘We’re going to make you a star,” Buzbee said. “Instead, basically, Combs did things to them so they don’t want to have anything to do with the entertainment industry ever again,” he said.
He continued, “The ages of the victims when the conduct occurred is shocking. The youngest victim was nine years old, we have an individual who was 14 years old and we have one 15 years old.
Diddy’s lawyer, Erica Wolff, vehemently denied the new allegations against the rapper, calling them “false and defamatory.”
This comes amidst Diddy’s upcoming trial for sex trafficking, racketeering, and sexual abuse. He was arrested on Monday, September 17, 2024, at the Park Hyatt Hotel on 57th Street in Manhattan by Homeland Security Investigations at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Obong of Calabar Tussle: Group Calls on NJC to Intervene
A faction in the ongoing Obong of Calabar tussle has called on the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) to intervene in the case, citing contempt of court by the defendant, Etubom Ekpo Abasi Otu. The group is urging Etubom Ekpo Abasi Otu to desist from hosting the forthcoming Utomo Obong Festival, pending the resolution of the case ¹.
The festival, scheduled to take place soon, has the Executive Governor of Cross River State as Chief Host, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong as Chairman of the Occasion, and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as the guest of honor.
The case, HC/278/2023, is currently before Hon. Justice Elias O. Abua at High Court 4 in Calabar. The court had previously rescheduled its ruling on the interlocutory application filed by the claimants.
The group’s call on the NJC highlights the need for the judiciary to intervene and ensure that the rule of law is upheld. As public office holders, the Governor, Senator Ekpenyong, and Senator Akpabio are sworn to protect the rule of law and the judicial system.
The Obong of Calabar tussle has been a longstanding issue, with various factions vying for the throne. The NJC’s intervention is crucial in ensuring that the defendant does not disregard the court’s proceedings.
