Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
This was announced in a statement from his personal office on Sunday. The diagnosis came after a recent medical check-up, following reports that Biden’s urinary symptoms had worsened.
According to CNN, doctors found a growth on his prostate. Further tests confirmed cancer with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) – this is one of the highest scores, indicating a very serious form of cancer.
“This represents a more aggressive form of the disease,” the statement explained, also mentioning that the cancer has already spread to the bones.
However, the report provided a glimmer of hope, stating that “the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
Biden and his family are currently discussing the best course of treatment with his medical team.
