Ex-Man United Player Brandon Williams Given 14-Month Suspended Jail Sentence for Dangerous Driving After 99mph Crash

Former Manchester United defender, Brandon Williams, has been given a 14-month prison sentence, but it’s been suspended for two years, for dangerous driving.

Williams, who appeared in court on Friday, has also been banned from driving for three years.

Recorder Eric Lamb told Williams that he had ‘strong personal mitigation’ because he committed the offence during a period of depression.

However, Williams was told he had been ‘stupid’ and earned ‘too much too soon’ after breaking into the United team. He admitted to showing off to a female passenger while driving at high speed.

Williams pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in March after being caught speeding at almost 100 mph before crashing his Audi A3.

The 24-year-old is said to have been ‘driving erratically’ and hit a Ford Fiesta before crashing into the central reservation on the A34 in August 2023.

Williams didn’t comment when asked if witnesses saw a balloon at his mouth while driving.

He was with a female passenger, who is said to have filmed them during the journey.

Williams was breathalysed at the scene, with a negative result, but was arrested for dangerous driving and not having third-party insurance.

Andrew Madden, the CPS senior crown prosecutor, said: ‘Brandon Williams’ driving that day was far below what a competent and careful driver would do.

‘Witnesses said Williams kept speeding up and then braking sharply. It was clear he wasn’t in control of the vehicle.

‘The driving was erratic and the speed was extremely excessive. Eventually, Williams lost control and crashed. It’s fortunate no one was seriously injured or killed.’
