Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar is suing Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), for N30 billion in damages.
Abubakar claims that Rollas made statements that harmed her reputation and career.
Nollywood actress Aisha Abubakar is suing the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and its president, Emeka Rollas, for defamation and emotional distress.
The lawsuit stems from Abubakar’s indefinite suspension from the AGN in October 2024, announced on social media. Abubakar claims she was not informed of the allegations against her before the suspension was made public.
The AGN accuses Abubakar of spreading rumors about extramarital affairs involving prominent figures in the entertainment industry. Abubakar denies these accusations and claims they have damaged her reputation and career prospects.
This case highlights the complex relationship between personal lives and public personas in Nollywood and the delicate balance between freedom of speech and the protection of reputations.
The letter stated, “Our client has been battling health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment during her recovery to spread a negative and false narrative.”
Halima Abubakar’s legal team has issued a strong demand to actor Rollas, alleging he made false claims that caused her emotional distress and damaged her reputation. They are demanding the removal of the defamatory publication, a public apology on Rollas’ Instagram page, and N30 billion in damages. If these demands are not met within seven days, legal action will be taken.
