Kat Torres, A Brazilian Instagram Influencer Sentenced for Turning Followers into Sex Workers
A US-based wellness influencer, Kat Torres, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for Human trafficking and enslaving women.

A US-based wellness influencer, Kat Torres, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for Human trafficking and enslaving women.
Her sentencing follows a harrowing human trafficking case uncovered by the FBI.
The investigation revealed disturbing details about the former Brazilian model’s activities, including allegations of enslaving and trafficking women who lived with her.
The case came to light after two women who were residing with Torres went missing in 2022. Subsequently, many women came forward with chilling testimonies of their time under Torres’ control.
They spoke of being initially drawn to her glamorous lifestyle and her purported abilities to predict the future using spiritual powers, which she often showcased on Brazilian TV and through high-profile associations, including rumoured relationships with Hollywood figures.
One of Torres’ former associates, identified as Ana, recounted to the media her ordeal after moving to New York to work as Torres’ live-in assistant.
Despite promises of a decent salary, Ana found herself in squalid conditions, forced to endure sleep deprivation and menial tasks without compensation. She described the house as filthy, with deplorable living conditions that included sleeping on a urine-soaked sofa.
The situation escalated when Torres relocated to Texas with two other women, Desirre and Leticia, under the guise of a healing and life coaching retreat.
The environment quickly turned oppressive, with restrictions on movement and alleged involvement in activities such as prostitution and witchcraft.
Desirre, one of the victims, disclosed how she was coerced into working at a strip club and subjected to Torres’ manipulative control, including financial quotas and enforced isolation from others.
Soon, Torres convinced Desiree to turn to prostitution. If she didn’t meet the earning quotas that Torres set, she was not allowed to return to the house that night.
“I ended up sleeping on the street several times because I couldn’t reach that,” Desirre said.
In September, the two women’s friends and family launched social media campaigns to find them. To avoid media attention, Torres and the women travelled from Texas to Maine. From there, the two were made to post Instagram videos denying being held captive and demanded people stop searching for them.

The case has shocked many, with over 20 women stepping forward to share similar tales of exploitation and deception by Torres. They continue to undergo psychological therapy to cope with the trauma inflicted during their time under her influence.

Hanks Anuku stated that false viral videos depicting him as unwell caused him to lose job opportunities.
Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku recently addressed the viral videos that wrongly depicted him as mentally unstable, explaining that he was actually preparing for a role as a madman.
The actor was interviewed by media personality Lucky Udu, who asked about the viral videos from 2023 showing him walking around the streets, talking to himself, and appearing disheveled. Anuku explained that he was simply immersing himself in the role to prepare for a character.
He began, “That day I was trying to get into character for a role I was going to play, a madman role. Someone who was not in his correct senses or right frame of mind.”
“So naturally I did it in the neighbourhood and I was trying to get it to show the way the director would have shown it. I was meditating and trying to get into character, that’s it. I was not even aware that I was being recorded. I was concentrating on myself and my script,” he continued.
Addressing the rumors of insanity that once circulated on the internet, Anuku emphasized that he was never under the influence of drugs and is, in fact, very healthy.
“People have said a lot of stuff. Rumours are rumours. They said I was sick and I was on drugs. I was not on drugs. Maybe they saw me depressed cause depression can cause stress. But me, being on drugs? That’s not true. I’m not a madman. I’m very sane and healthy. I exercise a lot and do my martial arts and sports,” he explained.
He revealed that he was greatly affected by the viral videos and subsequent rumors.

She was charged following the circulation of a video of the incident online.
She appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court dressed in all grey. She only spoke to confirm her name, address, and date of birth before covering her face and carrying a large suitcase as she exited the court.
The Metropolitan Police initiated an immediate investigation on Friday following the discovery of a video allegedly filmed inside HMP Wandsworth in south London between June 26 and 28.
Ms. De Sousa Abreu was arrested at Heathrow Airport as she was about to board a flight to Madrid, despite having informed the prison of her travel intentions, according to the court.
Gayathri Yogarajah defended Ms De Sousa Abreu by stating that she had informed HMP Wandsworth about her travel plans, which were then relayed to Scotland Yard. As a result, the 30-year-old was given conditional bail and is scheduled to attend a plea and case management hearing on July 29 at Isleworth Crown Court.
She is required to stay at the southwest London address specified by the court.
Her Portuguese passport must be kept by the police, and she is not allowed to try to get it back.
She is prohibited from applying for or having any international travel documents.
She must surrender her Portuguese identity card that she could use for travel.
Ms. Da Sousa Abreu is prohibited from entering any UK port and is required to undergo electronic monitoring from 9am to 7pm.
A spokesperson from the Prison Service stated, “Staff corruption is not acceptable, and the ex-prison officer shown in the video has been reported to the police. Further comments will be withheld pending the investigation.”

Aina Gold, a single mother, participated in the #FearlessInOctober protest on Tuesday.
She shared her struggles, revealing that she was considering prostitution due to the dire economic situation. Aina joined other demonstrators at Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos State during the 2024 Independence Day protests, expressing her frustration with the worsening conditions in the country.
“I am disappointed and unhappy with the life we are living. But I’m persevering; otherwise, I would have turned to prostitution for survival.
“Gari, kulikuli, and sachet water are now very expensive. What is happening? This suffering is too much.
“We thought things would improve with our own man as President.”
She recalled how the hardship began during the Naira redesign policy, saying, “We have been suffering since the days of ‘No Cash.’ Things were not this bad during COVID-19. Even during the ENDSARS protests, it wasn’t this terrible.
“This suffering is too much, and we are tired of persevering. I can no longer send money to my mother. Goods disappear as soon as you buy them.”
Aina, who has been a single mother since 2013, added, “I used to have a big shop, but now all I have is a makeshift stall.
“If I lacked discipline, I would have become a prostitute by now. The problem started during the ‘No Cash’ era, and it’s only gotten worse. There’s a lot more to say, but we’re tired.”

“I stayed Three and a Half Years in the Womb: Former Ogun Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s Unique Claim”
Former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun shared a remarkable story at his mother’s 25th remembrance ceremony.

Former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun shared a remarkable story at his mother’s 25th remembrance ceremony.
He claimed to have been carried in his mother’s womb for three and a half years, calling his birth a “miracle.”
Amosun said people were skeptical about his humanity after such an extended gestation period. He emphasized the importance of honoring parents, even after their passing, stating that both the Quran and the Bible uphold this value.
“My father, who wasn’t around at the time, had arranged for fuel to burn my body if I didn’t survive.”
This rare occurrence led his father to give him the name Duro-o-rike, meaning “Stay and be given the best of care.”
Abidoye Amosun, the elder brother of former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, confirmed that their father had sent a naming gift and letter with names for the newborn three days before the naming ceremony.
Reflecting on the fleeting nature of life, Amosun requested prayers for his late mother and all who have passed on. The remembrance gathering was attended by Islamic leaders from Egbaland and beyond, former aides, and family members.
