Manchester United Sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 Million

The Brazilian forward has completed his move from Wolves for a fee of £62.5 million, pending visa and registration. A statement was released on Sunday afternoon.

Cunha, who is 28 years old, passed his medical last week. This is United’s first major signing of the summer as they aim to rebuild under manager Ruben Amorim.

Cunha will be Ruben Amorim’s first signing as he aims to rebuild a squad that finished 15th in the Premier League last season.

Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 appearances for Wolves after initially joining on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

He signed a permanent deal at the end of that season for up to 40 million euros (approximately £35 million).

A short statement from United said: ‘Manchester United has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha.’

‘The Brazilian forward’s signing is subject to visa and registration. The 26-year-old has 13 senior caps for Brazil and, in his club career, has played 270 matches and scored 72 goals in the top leagues of England, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.’

‘During his two-and-a-half seasons at Wolves, Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 appearances.’

‘Everyone at Manchester United is looking forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.’

It’s understood that United will pay Wolves in three instalments of £20.85 million over two years, after Wolves turned down an offer to spread the payments over five years.

The Red Devils had already agreed personal terms with the Brazilian international, and he could potentially take over Marcus Rashford’s No. 10 shirt.
