Biden, 81, tested positive following his first event in Las Vegas, where he was expected to later speak at the UnidosUS annual conference.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced the positive test for the 81-year-old Democrat after the president of UnidosUS, a Latino civil rights organization, said Biden would not be able to speak at a scheduled event due to the diagnosis.

In a statement, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden tested positive earlier in the day “following his first event in Las Vegas.”

“He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms,” Jean-Pierre said.

“He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”

Afrobeats star Asake has taken his father, Fatai Odunsi, to a specialist hospital in Ikoyi.

Asake Alleged Dad

According to a source, Chinese experts are currently providing medical care for him there. When Sunday Scoop reached out to one of Odunsi’s neighbors, she confirmed that he is indeed receiving treatment at this facility. This neighbor had previously guided our correspondent to Asake’s childhood home in Iga Idunganran, Isale Eko, during a visit last Saturday.

Speaking in the local Isale Eko parlance (now translated into English), she stated, “Call me again around 6:30 pm. By then, I should have gone to their house, so I would be able to give you more information on what you asked.”

When our correspondent reached out to her again around 7 pm, she confirmed the news, saying, “I have confirmed from his (Odunsi’s) wife that he has been admitted to a specialist hospital in Ikoyi where Chinese experts are currently attending to him.”

According to a source close to Asake’s management, the situation with his daughter Zeenat and her mother was simply a mistake. The source, who spoke to Sunday Scoop anonymously, said Asake is now taking care of his financial responsibilities towards both his father and daughter. However, they weren’t sure if Asake would be getting back together with Zeenat’s mother or providing financial support to her.

The entire thing was an oversight, but all has been sorted. He has reunited with his family and promised to give them whatever they would need to keep him going. To the best of my knowledge, he has begun fulfilling the promises he made and that is why there is now calm. I have no knowledge of what has or will happen to the baby mama; what I know is what I have told you”, the source said.

Odunsi, in a widely shared video, revealed that after reconciling with Asake, they reached an agreement. Asake promised to buy Odunsi a new house and cover his medical bills. Real estate agents are already looking for the perfect property. Odunsi also confirmed that Asake will take full responsibility for his 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat. However, Odunsi didn’t say anything about Asake getting back together with Zeenat’s mother or offering her any support.

UPTH reports: Burna Boy did not settle all patients’ medical expenses

The hospital explained that the artist only covered the bills for specific patients, not all outstanding bills. Mrs. Elabha Meni, the hospital’s spokesperson, clarified this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday.

“We commend Burna Boy’s kindness in financially assisting select patients in our hospital to offset their bills during his visit on June 11.

“However, contrary to reports stating that all patient’s bills in UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations.

“The hospital did not receive direct payments from the musician and his team on behalf of patients to support this worthy course of reducing healthcare cost,” Meni clarified.

Meni praised the musician for his charitable deed in assisting those in need in society.

The NCDC reported 378 deaths from cholera in Nigeria as of the latest update.

The outbreak, which has affected 339 local government areas, has led to 378 deaths, bringing the case-fatality ratio to 2.7%, according to NCDC Director General Dr. Jide Idris.

At a press briefing in Abuja, Dr. Idris emphasized that cholera remains a significant public health issue, particularly in regions with inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. He noted that the current surge in cases is largely due to heavy rains and subsequent flooding, particularly in the northern states of Borno, Adamawa, Jigawa, Yobe, and Kano, which have become the epicenters of the outbreak. Earlier in the year, the outbreak was concentrated in the southern states as the rainy season began.

Dr. Idris highlighted the vulnerability of children under five, who have been disproportionately affected by the outbreak, and noted that the number of cholera cases has more than doubled compared to the same period last year.

The NCDC has mobilized rapid response teams to the hardest-hit areas, working with health ministries and stakeholders to control the spread of the disease. High-level advocacy visits have also been conducted to states such as Borno to engage with health leadership and offer support to flood-displaced communities. In partnership with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the NCDC has implemented reactive cholera vaccinations in internally displaced persons camps, significantly reducing reported cases.

In addition to cholera, Dr. Idris revealed that confirmed cases of Mpox in Nigeria have risen to 102 across 26 states and the FCT, up from 94 previously reported.

The NCDC continues to urge Nigerians to maintain good personal hygiene, particularly regular hand washing with soap and water, and to seek immediate medical care for symptoms of cholera, including severe diarrhea and vomiting.

Dr. Idris reaffirmed the NCDC’s commitment to enhancing surveillance, providing prompt treatment, and improving sanitation practices in affected communities, stressing that cholera is preventable with concerted efforts.
