A recent report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has pointed out a notable increase in the price of a nutritious diet throughout Nigeria.

“The National average Cost of a Healthy Diet was N982 in March 2024. This is 4.7% higher than the amount recorded in February 2024, which was N938,” the report reads.

The report, published on the statistics bureau’s official website, highlights the financial difficulties caused by dietary expenses within the context of wider economic limitations. This includes the elimination of fuel subsidies and the exchange rate unification during President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The financial pressure is significant, especially since it aligns with the government’s raise of the national minimum wage to ₦70,000, revealed during the Workers’ Day festivities. However, labor unions remain unhappy, contending that the wage hike does not tackle the harsh economic challenges Nigerians encounter regularly.

The NBS report is vital for determining the cost-of-living adjustments needed to sustain a basic standard of health. It also acts as a gauge for the economic policy measures needed to reduce the difficulties faced by numerous Nigerians.

The continuous increase in the price of a nutritious diet highlights the importance of implementing effective strategies to stabilize and possibly lower food prices, all while ensuring that wage adjustments align with the real cost of living adjustments.

Uzochukwu, the son of the esteemed Igbo businessman Chief I.K.B. Igboanugo, founder of I.K.B Industries Limited, was driving home from work when the incident occurred three weeks ago.

His grieving father, Chief I.K.B. Igboanugo, shared the heartbreaking news in a poignant Facebook post on Monday, May 13, 2024. According to his father, the fatal collision took place when the intoxicated driver, who had fallen asleep at the wheel while speeding on the highway, crashed into Uzochukwu’s vehicle.

Describing his son as a joyful, brilliant, kind, caring, and loving individual, the devastated father mourned the loss of a remarkable young man.

“I lost my son 3 weeks ago, I have been crying like a baby. A medical doctor ( Ophthalmologist) in America,” Chief Igboanugo wrote.

“An accident victim of a drunkard who fell asleep while speeding on the highway, jumped his lane in the opposite direction and hit with speed force on the driver’s side door where my son was as he was driving home after work.

“We can’t question God as He has the final decision.

“Always pray as a parent not to loose any of your child irrespective of his behaviour because loss of a child can k!ll any parent.

“Uzochukwu my son was a very nice boy, always happy, intelligent, friendly, caring, loving, sociable etc.

“He was 32yrs old, not yet married despite my nagging, he sacrificed all his time and achieved Ophthalmology which is a very difficult medical course in the history of reading medicine to become a medical doctor.

“Since his d£ath I have been going through mental and psychological trauma as my doctor has been warning me.

“My wife also has not been her self. Pls don’t wish your worst enemy this type of tragedy, now I pray for anybody who has not lost his child never to experience it. It is hellish and a disaster.

“Uzochukwu my son you are now in God’s bosom and working for Him that was why he took you this early. As your soul will rest in God’s bosom in Jesus name.

The Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) does not recognize the black market for foreign exchange transactions and advises individuals to use their respective banks for Forex dealings.

Dangote’s Plan for a Petrol Terminal in the Caribbean:

Aliko Dangote plans to establish a terminal in the Caribbean for exporting petroleum products to North American countries.

He announced this at Afreximbank’s Trade and Investment Forum in The Bahamas on June 12.

Dangote mentioned the company’s capability to deliver petroleum products to the region in 18 to 20 days.

A bilateral agreement will be signed with the region to construct the terminal for exporting petroleum products.

Dangote said: “I know the price in the Caribbean in terms of petroleum products is very high. We produce it cheaply. We can always bring it here. We can set up a terminal and we’ll be able to fix their needs.

“We will have a bilateral agreement with them, and also, bringing in stuff from there is not more than 18 to 20 days maximum. And then we need to set up a terminal.

“Once we set up a terminal, they will have a very cheap oil. They will have cheap energy. And by having cheap energy, their own economy will grow faster.”

A 19-year-old woman has been apprehended for collaborating with her boyfriend to abduct an elderly man in Edo State.

During a press conference, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Funsho Adegboye, revealed that the young woman, who identified herself as a university student, accompanied other gang members to the pastor’s residence. She deceived the pastor into unlatching his gate by pretending to be in distress, claiming to be the spouse of a church member.

“She was crying that she needed help from the pastor that they should please open the gate for her and that she is the wife of one of the church members. That is the lie she told the pastor. As soon as the pastor opened the door for her, other members of the kidnapping group hijacked the pastor at gunpoint and took the man away.”

The Commissioner advised parents to supervise their children, monitor their activities, and pay attention to the friendships they maintain.

’She saw one of the suspects giving the gun to her boyfriend. According to her, it was her boyfriend who lured her into this criminal activity. It is quite unfortunate that a 19-year-old girl! People should be careful”.

During questioning, the suspect pretended not to know about the crime and asserted that she was coerced into participating in the criminal activity.
