Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Ex-Husband Issues Warning: Stop Using My Name

In his petition for jactitation of marriage, he has asked the court to instruct Diezani to go back to using her maiden name, Agama.

The former Chief of Naval Staff believes that Diezani’s continued use of his name post their legal separation could harm his reputation and lead to unintended consequences, especially considering the corruption accusations against her.

Madueke, a former military governor of Anambra and Imo states, married Diezani on June 30, 1999. Despite Diezani initiating divorce proceedings in November 2021, Madueke did not contest the case, resulting in the court dissolving the marriage.

However, Diezani persists in using his surname even after their marital union was formally terminated.

He stated, “On the 13th day of April 2022, judgment was delivered in Suit No. NSD/MG345/2021 by Hon. Justice A.A. Ozegya dissolving the marriage between the petitioner and the respondent on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.

“The said dissolution of marriage has now become absolute by the operation of law.

“Even though the marriage has been dissolved and is now legally finalised, the respondent continues to use the petitioner’s first name (Alison) and surname (Madueke) as her own without any justification or consent from the petitioner.

“It is now more than two years that the respondent continues to use the name of the petitioner to his embarrassment.”

Madueke disclosed that he instructed his legal team to officially request Diezani on December 14, 2023, to stop using his surname and return to her maiden name, Agama. Despite receiving this formal notice, Diezani has not replied and persists in using his name.

The petition further read;

“The respondent has continued to hold out herself as the wife of the petitioner even when the marriage has been dissolved.

“The respondent is undergoing criminal trials in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. The charge in Nigeria is Suit No. FUC/ABI/CR/208/2010.

“The respondent faces public allegations of corruption and financial misconduct, for which trials are ongoing for both.

“The persistent portrayal of the respondent as the spouse of the petitioner is creating embarrassment, a misleading impression and tarnishing the reputation, integrity, and public image of the petitioner.

“The respondent’s continued use of the petitioner’s first and surname falsely suggests to the public a continuing relationship between the parties though same has since legally ended.

“The respondent’s continued use of the petitioner’s first and family names poses a significant risk of legal and financial harm to the petitioner.

“The petitioner seeks the intervention of this Honourable Court to prevent the respondent from further using his first name and surname, thereby safeguarding his image, personality, and reputation.”

Madueke requested a perpetual injunction to prevent Diezani from using his name after their marriage ended. He also asked for an injunction to stop Diezani from claiming they are still married through words or actions.

Madueke is seeking a court order for Diezani to go back to using her maiden name and to publicly declare in a national newspaper in Nigeria and the UK that she is no longer using his surname.

Struggling Single Mother Seeks Support in the Face of Poverty

She shared her struggles, revealing that she was considering prostitution due to the dire economic situation. Aina joined other demonstrators at Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos State during the 2024 Independence Day protests, expressing her frustration with the worsening conditions in the country.

“I am disappointed and unhappy with the life we are living. But I’m persevering; otherwise, I would have turned to prostitution for survival.

“Gari, kulikuli, and sachet water are now very expensive. What is happening? This suffering is too much.

“We thought things would improve with our own man as President.”

She recalled how the hardship began during the Naira redesign policy, saying, “We have been suffering since the days of ‘No Cash.’ Things were not this bad during COVID-19. Even during the ENDSARS protests, it wasn’t this terrible.

“This suffering is too much, and we are tired of persevering. I can no longer send money to my mother. Goods disappear as soon as you buy them.”

Aina, who has been a single mother since 2013, added, “I used to have a big shop, but now all I have is a makeshift stall.

“If I lacked discipline, I would have become a prostitute by now. The problem started during the ‘No Cash’ era, and it’s only gotten worse. There’s a lot more to say, but we’re tired.”

Young Dolph’s Killer Sentenced to 50 More Years in Prison

These sentences will be served concurrently. The judge heard a statement from Dolph’s family before issuing the sentence.

“To the one responsible for taking him from us just know this: You may deny your actions but the evidence speaks clearly,” the statement read in part, referring to Dolph’s death.

“You showed yourself to be driven by jealousy and cowardice.

You may have tried to take a man down for the sake of envy, but in the end have lost far more than you could ever gain.

The world sees you now for what you are.”

Shelby County Deputy District Attorney Paul Hagerman recommended 40 years in prison for Justin Johnson’s conspiracy to commit first-degree murder charge and 20 years for the felon in possession of a firearm charge, to be served consecutively to his existing life sentence for first-degree murder.

Johnson’s attorney, Luke Evans, argued against consecutive sentences, stating that Johnson’s life sentence already prevents him from being eligible for parole until his mid to late 70s. Evans requested concurrent sentences and the shortest possible terms.

This sentencing follows a motion filed by Johnson’s attorneys on October 25, 2024, seeking a new trial. The motion claimed insufficient evidence to support the first-degree murder conviction beyond a reasonable doubt.

It also claims the court “erred by admitting gruesome photographs of the victim’s body at the crime scene” and by admitting “gruesome autopsy photographs.” The motion also claims the court made a mistake in denying Johnson’s motions to sit at counsel table.

Justin Johnson, convicted of first-degree murder in the death of rapper Young Dolph, was sentenced to life in prison on October 25, 2024. Johnson’s legal team argued that the evidence presented at trial was insufficient to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and that the court erred by admitting graphic photographs of the crime scene and autopsy. They also argued that the court wrongly denied Johnson’s request to sit at the counsel table.

Young Dolph was fatally shot on November 17, 2021, at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in Memphis. Two masked gunmen opened fire on the rapper as he entered the store.
