FIFA has announced that the winner of the first edition of the new-format Club World Cup could earn an impressive $125 million in prize money!
Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, shared this exciting news in a statement on Wednesday. The tournament is set to take place from June 14 to July 13, with a total prize pool of $1 billion.
Here’s how the prize money will be distributed among the 32 participating teams:
Participation Fund: A total of $525 million will be shared among all teams just for participating.
Performance-Based Fund: An additional $475 million will be awarded based on how well teams perform during the tournament.
The winning team, after competing in seven matches, could take home up to $125 million, which includes extra bonuses.
European Clubs: Each will receive between $12.81 million and $38.19 million, depending on various factors.
South American Teams: Each will get $15.21 million for participating.
Teams from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa: Each will receive $9.55 million.
Auckland City: The only team from Oceania will be awarded $3.58 million for their participation.
“The distribution model… represents the biggest prize money ever awarded to a competition comprising a group stage and a knockout phase.
“In addition to the prize money earmarked for the participating clubs, an unprecedented solidarity programme will be put in place with the aim of redistributing an additional $250 million to football around the world,” Infantino said.
Infantino declared that all tournament revenue would be dedicated to supporting club football.
