Shallipopi to Skip Next Headies After Award Snub

Nigerian singer, Shallipopi, has vowed to boycott future editions of the premier Afrobeats award, The Headies, following an embarrassing moment at the 17th edition in Lagos on Sunday.

Shallipopi, pipped to the post in the keenly fought Next Rated category by his frequent collaborator, Odumodublvck, likely thought he'd bagged a consolation prize when his song 'Cast' was declared the winner of the Best Rap Single of the Year.

However, upon reaching the stage to collect his award, the presenter simply offered Shallipopi a handshake, as the organisers had apparently run out of award plaques mid-ceremony.

Regarding the mortifying incident on his X page on Monday, Shallipopi declared he would boycott the award ceremony from now on.

He stated he didn't even want the Best Rap Single award, as he doesn't see himself as a rapper. He urged the organisers to give it to the "real rappers" in the category.

The music star wrote, "The next time you see me, I'll be gone."

“I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category. Me, Shallipopi I nor be rapper.”
