Westbrook Mall Closed: 24 Arrested for Breaking Lagos State Rules

The Lagos State Government has sealed Westbrook Mall in Lekki and arrested 24 individuals for breaking a government order, according to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Wahab revealed that the management of Westbrook Mall had previously ignored state regulations on two separate occasions.

The commissioner said, “Sequel to the contravention by the Management of Westbrook Mall, and having broken the State government Seal order on two separate occasions, a joint LSWMO and KAI Enforcement exercise was carried out on the facility this morning, Thursday 3rd April, 2025.

According to the commissioner, the shopping centre, situated in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area, had previously been sealed for similar breaches but continued to operate against government instructions.

Wahab stated that as part of the enforcement action, 24 individuals were arrested and would be prosecuted. The property was also resealed to prevent further unauthorised operations.

He said, “Actions taken - 24 people were arrested and to be prosecuted. The property was resealed.”

Wahab stressed that Westbrook Mall's management must pay all fines required by Lagos State law.

“The property will also be mandated to pay all necessary Fines in line with the State laws,” he said.

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing compliance with environmental and regulatory standards, warning businesses against breaking established regulations.
