South African hip-hop star Nasty C, whose real name is David Junior Ngcobo, plans to change his stage name to Ivyson.
The rapper recently revealed in an interview that his current stage name, Nasty C, has no deeper meaning. He confessed that it was a random combination of letters he came up with when he was starting out in his career. He even admitted to fabricating a story in the past about a producer giving him the nickname "Nasty Cat" to create a narrative and acknowledge a person who helped him early on.
The new name, Ivyson, is deeply personal and a tribute to his late mother, Ivy, who passed away when he was a baby. Nasty C has often honored her memory through his work, including his "Ivyson Tour" and the "Ivyson Army Tour Mixtape," which are both named after her. He has a tattoo on his arm with ivy leaves and the word "Ivyson," symbolizing the pain his mother went through to give him life.
The rapper has said that he feels the new name will better represent him as he continues to grow. He believes a name with meaning is more fitting for his evolving career and personal identity.
