Nigerian Artists Vying for Top Honours at the 2026 Grammys
From ‘Morayo’ to ‘No Sign of Weakness,’ a slew of major Nigerian projects is in the running for the world’s top music honours.
The race for the 2026 Grammy Awards is heating up, and Nigeria’s biggest music exports are firmly in the conversation. A recent report from the Grammy monitoring platform, The Grammy Guru, has unveiled the songs and albums submitted by the nation’s top artists for consideration, revealing a powerful push for global recognition.
Leading the charge is superstar Wizkid, who appears to be making a concerted effort across multiple categories. His acclaimed album ‘Morayo’ is in the running for the prestigious Album of the Year and Best Global Album awards. The hit single ‘Piece of My Heart’ has been submitted for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year, as well as the new Best African Music Performance category. Wizkid’s directorial skills are also being tested, with the video for ‘Kese (Dance)’ submitted for Best Music Video.
He is not alone in the quest. Fellow global heavyweight Burna Boy has thrown his latest album, ‘No Sign of Weakness,’ into the ring for Album of the Year and Best Global Album. His single ‘Love’ is aiming for the Best African Music Performance spot, while his collaboration with French artist Joé Dwèt Filé, ‘Kampé III,’ is submitted for Best Global Music Performance.
Rising superstar Ayra Starr is also making a strong play. Her track ‘Hot Body’ is submitted for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while her popular collaboration with Wizkid, ‘Gimme Dat,’ is up for both Best African Music Performance and Best Music Video.
The final say now rests with the Recording Academy, whose members will vote to determine the official nominees. In a significant move that strengthens Nigeria’s voice in the process, singer Davido was recently announced as a new voting member of the Academy. The world will find out which submissions made the cut when the nominees are announced in November 2025.
