Phyna Speaks Out After Backlash for Partying Post-Burial
Big Brother Naija Season 7 champion, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, widely known as Phyna, has finally responded to the fierce criticism she faced for attending a party shortly after her sister’s funeral.
Phyna's younger sister, Ruth Otabor, sadly passed away in an accident involving a Dangote truck in August and was laid to rest in September. However, the reality star was recently scrutinised on social media when a video emerged showing her clubbing with Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
The viral footage prompted a wave of backlash from some users who accused the BBNaija star of being insensitive and recovering from her loss too quickly.
Although Regina Daniels had previously defended Phyna, urging people not to judge how others grieve, Phyna herself had remained silent on the matter—until now.
Taking to her X account, the well-known media personality posted an emotional message addressing the row. She stressed that grieving is a deeply personal experience and one that should not be dictated by others.
“Grief has no manual, no fixed face, and no timetable. The fact that I choose to keep living, smiling, or sharing moments does not erase the pain I carry. Respect the process, even if you do not understand it. If you cannot extend compassion, then at least extend silence,” she said.
