Duncan Mighty Claims Port Harcourt Artistes Laid the Foundation for Afrobeats

 Duncan Mighty says he and other Port Harcourt singers created the foundation of Afrobeats. 

The artist explained in an interview with Hip TV that the city's unique slang and music style, championed by people like himself, Timaya, Burna Boy, and Omah Lay, are now a key part of the genre.

"In almost every Afrobeats song today you can hear the Port Harcourt influence, especially the Ikwerri slangs.

"You can’t hear any Afrobeats song today and you will not hear a spice of Port Harcourt. Almost every Afrobeats song today has the flavour of Port Harcourt sound.

“I, Burna Boy, Timaya, Omah Lay and Port Harcourt sound built the foundation of today’s Afrobeats,” he claimed.

Duncan Mighty’s claims caused a mixed reaction, with many people criticising him for overstating the influence of Port Harcourt and its artists on Afrobeats.
