Why I Gave Back to My Community With a Football Tournament - Dj Brightstar

DJ Brightstar, a disc jockey and radio presenter, has explained why he ran football tournaments for young people in his Akwa Ibom community earlier this year. He said he was motivated by a desire to keep young people busy and hopeful.

The popular entertainer held two youth competitions over the Easter holidays: one in Ikot Eyen Imoh and another in Ikot Ubo Akama. Called the “Superstar DJ Brightstar Easter Youth Tournament,” the events brought together hundreds of local young people. Community leaders described it as a brilliant way to bring everyone together.

Brightstar said the tournaments were his way of helping local, grassroots development. “Giving something back to my people is something I take very seriously,” he commented. “Football is a great way to unite young people, inspire them, and help them build their confidence. Lots of them just need the chance to be noticed and encouraged.”

The project even got the attention of local government. The Chairman of his Local Government Area (Ikot Abasi L.G.A) sent a message of praise via Brightstar's father.

Encouraged by how well it went, Brightstar is now planning a bigger Christmas Youth Tournament in December. He says this one will include more organised activities to help prepare young people for opportunities both in sport and in life.

Brightstar, who is well-known for his work on stations like Inspiration FM, Yanga FM, Base FM, Max FM Lagos, and Diamond 88.5 FM Osun State, added that his long-term aim is to use sport and entertainment to make community bonds stronger.
