Nollywood Film 'Black Market' Sets New Guinness World Record with 51,000-Strong Viewership

Nollywood has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the largest audience gathering at a movie screening, as more than 51,000 people converged on Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, to watch the crime thriller Black Market.
A Guinness World Records official confirmed the milestone during the Saturday night screening, following verification that more than 51,000 people had attended the event.
FilmOne, the film's distributor, also announced the achievement in a statement posted on its social media platforms.

The distributor added, “Nigeria, we didn't just watch a movie. WE MADE HISTORY.”
TBS was thronged with film enthusiasts who began arriving in large numbers hours ahead of the screening, with hundreds of attendees at the venue well before the event officially began.
The screening had been deliberately organised in pursuit of the Guinness World Record, with organisers setting a target audience of 50,000 people at a single location.
Gates opened at 2pm, followed by a red-carpet session around 3pm, while the main screening ran between 7pm and 8:30pm.
Long queues stretched toward the TBS roundabout as attendees made their way into the venue.
The event also featured music, food and games, drawing several celebrities and public figures.
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat arrived at the venue at approximately 8:50pm.
Celebrities spotted at the event included Gabriel Afolayan, Real Warri Pikin and Tomi Ojo.
Black Market was produced by Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios and FilmOne Studios, and distributed by FilmOne. The film was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Nora Awolowo.
Its cast includes Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini (popularly known as Itele D Icon), and Uzor Arukwe, among others.
The crime thriller follows five market women drawn into a cross-border smuggling operation amid fuel scarcity and economic hardship. The story takes a dramatic turn when the daughter of one of the women is kidnapped, plunging their lives into turmoil.
The record-breaking screening was supported by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, alongside several corporate partners.
