The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has provided clarification regarding the reopening of the Onitsha medicine market.
After a closure that lasted from February 10 to March 7, 2025, aimed at sanitizing the medicine distribution system, the market is now officially reopened.
Martins Iluyomade, the South East zonal director of NAFDAC, confirmed that the reopening followed a meeting to address concerns and ensure compliance with safety standards. This decision comes after a month-long closure that also affected six other adjoining markets in the area.
