Ireti Doyle Reveals Why She Quit Social Media
After months away from the online world, veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has explained why she disappeared from social media.
The 58-year-old made a brief return to Instagram to detail her reasons, expressing her belief that social media is sadly becoming too unsafe and toxic for her.
She said, “I used to wonder what I’d do with myself once I became an ‘empty nester’… now I know. Had to disappear again. The streets of Social Media (nay, the world in general) is becoming too toxic for my quiet soul. How have you been? I hope you’re protecting yourself?
Early Life and Career Start
Ireti Doyle was born on 3rd May 1967 in Ondo State. She made her mark on Nigeria's entertainment scene after spending most of her early life in the United States, specifically Boston. After returning to Nigeria, she graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos.
Her career began behind and in front of the camera as a producer and presenter. Most famously, she created and hosted the popular fashion and lifestyle programme, 'Oge with Iretiola', for ten years. She also anchored shows like 'Morning Ride' on STV.
Acting Breakthrough
Doyle's major acting breakthrough came in the late 1990s. Since then, she has built an acclaimed career with notable performances in films such as 'Sitanda' (2006), 'Across the Niger' (2009), and 'Torn' (2013).
Her work has earned her several honours, including a Best Supporting Actress win at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA).
She was married to the broadcaster Patrick Doyle, but that union ended in divorce.
