The track 'African Queen’ has been a blessing and a problem to me – 2Baba

African Queen was a blessing and a curse - 2baba

The iconic Nigerian singer 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) has revealed that 'African Queen' was the song that started his career and remains one of his most personally meaningful tracks.

Despite all the benefits it brought, he confessed it has also been a bit of a weight to carry. He made these comments on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show recently.

"African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything," he said.

Released in 2004, 'African Queen' catapulted 2Baba to global fame. He became the first African artist to win major awards like the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO.

However, the song's origin has faced repeated disputes. Blackface, 2Baba's former bandmate, has often claimed that 2Baba stole the track from him. In an earlier interview, 2Baba admitted that 'African Queen' was initially a joint effort with his bandmates but denied stealing it.

This dispute has kept the song controversial for more than twenty years. The subject sparked fresh debate in August 2025 after Billboard magazine named it the "greatest Afrobeats song ever."
