EFCC Clears the Air: Sabinus "Wanted" Poster is Fake

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially debunked a viral "wanted" poster featuring popular comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, better known as Sabinus, labeling the graphic as fake and misleading.

In a statement released via its official social media channels on Thursday, the anti-graft agency shared the circulating image with a bold "FAKE NEWS" stamp. The commission cautioned the public against spreading false information and warned those responsible for creating the fraudulent poster to desist from such actions immediately.

“Clout chaser, Stop this now!” the EFCC wrote in the caption accompanying the post.

The fraudulent poster, which quickly gained traction across various social media platforms, utilized the official EFCC logo to falsely claim that the comedian—incorrectly identified as 43 years old—was wanted for obtaining money by false pretenses. The hoax even listed a specific "last known address" at 13/14 Ligali Ayomide Street in Victoria Island, Lagos.

While the graphic closely mimicked the authentic design and format used by the anti-graft agency for official suspect announcements, the commission clarified that it is entirely unauthorized. The EFCC has not yet stated whether they have identified or are pursuing the parties responsible for creating and distributing the counterfeit material.

Sabinus, a titan of the Nigerian comedy scene celebrated globally for his viral skits, has yet to issue a public statement regarding the hoax. His silence comes as the fraudulent poster continues to circulate, despite the EFCC's swift intervention. The commission has used this incident to reiterate its standing warning to the public: always verify the authenticity of law enforcement notices through official channels before sharing, as the spread of digital misinformation remains a persistent threat.
