Chisora Uses Medical Cannabis for Athlete Body Pain Management

British heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora has opened up about his reliance on prescribed medical cannabis to manage the chronic body pain left behind by two decades in the ring.

The 42-year-old fighter admitted that a lifetime of taking heavy punishment at the elite level has taken a severe physical toll, leaving him facing a daily battle with deep-seated discomfort from his knees right up to his hands.

Chisora laid bare his struggles at the launch of WarOnPain—a newly minted UK platform dedicated to guiding people with long-term conditions through the realities of the British legal medical cannabis system.

“People see the fights, the knockouts, the entertainment. What they don’t see is what happens afterwards, the years your body carries the damage, the recovery and the pain you live with every day. When you’re younger, your body recovers quickly. But now I’m in my 40s, after more than 20 years in boxing, I regularly deal with chronic pain from my knees to my hands,” he said.

The boxer made it clear that his usage is entirely medicinal and supervised by doctors, separating his advocacy work from using the drug for fun.

“This isn’t about recreational cannabis. It’s about access to proper medical treatment in a safe and regulated way,” he added.

According to the details released, Chisora’s treatment involves a specific dosage of dry cannabis flower prescribed by a specialist doctor, which he administers using a medical vaporiser.

The former champion stated that his main goal is to champion retired athletes, military veterans, and members of the public who are silently battling constant physical and mental health challenges.

“And this goes far beyond boxing. I know former athletes, veterans and people from all walks of life who are struggling quietly every day, physically and mentally. Many feel like they’ve run out of options,” he stated.
