Yoruba Nollywood actress Olamide Odunlade has opened up about the tough sacrifices behind her career, revealing she once walked away from a relationship headed for marriage to pursue her passion for acting.
She revealed that the relationship hit a dead end after her ex-fiancé’s mother dropped a heavy ultimatum: choose her son or her acting career. Naturally, she chose her passion.
Opening up to Potpourri, the actress revealed she didn’t hesitate for a second. For her, acting isn't just a career—it's a lifelong passion she has lovingly nurtured since her childhood days.
“My ex-fiancé’s mum called me and asked me to choose between her son and my career, and I chose my career because I believe in myself and my craft. I chose acting because I have had passion for it right from childhood. I have always played lead roles in drama productions and I love acting a lot. It is my life,” she said.
For Odunlade, love isn't enough to sustain a bond—trust is the ultimate foundation. She firmly believes that once trust is shattered, there is simply no reason to stay.
“Trust is very important to me when dating someone. If my partner can’t trust me, I am ending the relationship because issues of infidelity can affect one’s health. The same applies to me. If I can’t trust you, I will walk away. Love is one thing, trust is another. Without trust, love is meaningless,” she stated.
Odunlade didn't shy away from the practical side of relationships either. She stressed that while love is a necessity, it simply cannot replace the vital role financial stability plays in keeping everyday life.
“Money pays bills, not love. Money solves problems, not love. Love is beautiful and important, and we all need it in our lives, but without money, life becomes difficult,” she said.
Speaking on the qualities she admires in a partner, the actress noted that she is highly attracted to well-styled men, adding that neatness and a smart appearance are major selling points for her.
Over the years, Odunlade has built a solid track record in Nollywood, not just as an actress but also as a producer with projects like Mojere, Omo Mala, Kosedurowo, and The First Tornado under her belt.
Despite the heavy personal sacrifices along the way, she remains completely dedicated to her craft, proving that acting is still her number one love.
