Odogwu Asaba Arrested: Delta Police Investigate Rape and Death of 20-Year-Old Woman

The Delta State Police have confirmed the arrest of popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, known as "Odogwu of Asaba", over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman who later died after drinking poison.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe said the victim's family filed a complaint explaining that the young woman had travelled to Asaba on 1 June 2026. Mr Ogbonna had reportedly invited her there, promising to help her financially with some family problems.

According to the police, the suspect took the woman to a hotel as soon as she arrived, where he allegedly raped and beat her. The woman returned home in distress and told her parents what had happened. Before her death, she recorded a video detailing the alleged assault and the deep emotional distress she was suffering. She later died after taking a toxic substance.

The police stated that officers quickly arrested the 40-year-old content creator, who has since made what investigators described as “useful statements” during his initial questioning.

“The suspect reportedly made useful statements to the police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case,” Edafe said.

The case has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the young woman.

The police have reassured the public that the investigation is ongoing and that anyone found responsible will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
