President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Adeleke, who was re-elected on Saturday, August 15, arrived at the State House at about 5:20 pm and proceeded straight to the president’s office for the meeting during which he presented his certificate of return to Tinubu.

The meeting came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued certificate of return to Adeleke.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord, secured 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who polled 444,815 votes.

The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 LGAs, defeating 14 other candidates, including Oyebamiji and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (AD), who was a distant third with 17,180 votes.

In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, on Sunday, Tinubu congratulated Adeleke, describing his election victory as a “fitting assurance” that democracy would continue to flourish under his administration.

“His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” the statement quoted Tinubu as saying.

“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.

Meanwhile, Oluwole Oke, director-general of the APC governorship campaign committee in the Osun election, rejected Adeleke’s victory, asserting that the party will not hurriedly congratulate Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, on his re-election.

Oke expressed the APC's stance, noting that the party still believes the Accord candidate did not poll the highest total of valid votes in the August 15 contest.
