Shakira is set to play a free concert on Rio’s famous Copacabana beach on 2 May, city officials have confirmed.
Following in the footsteps of stars like Madonna and Lady Gaga, the Colombian singer was announced as this year’s headliner after weeks of rumours. The city’s mayor had previously teased fans by posting AI videos of himself with various celebrities, including Beyonce and Rihanna.
The council confirmed the news on social media, joking that "Hips don’t lie" as they invited fans to the sand.
These annual beach gigs are known for drawing massive crowds. Last year, Lady Gaga performed for 2.1 million people, while Madonna’s show in 2024 attracted 1.6 million. In the past, legendary acts like The Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart have also played at the iconic spot.
Shakira, 49, last performed in Brazil in 2025 during her most recent world tour.
