Business and Legal Leaders Set for 20th NBA-SBL Conference in Abuja
The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) is hosting its 20th Annual International Business Law Conference from June 8 to 10, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel. This milestone event also marks the section's 21st anniversary.
Announced at a recent press briefing in Lagos, this year's theme is "Beyond Reforms: Measuring Policy Impact."
According to NBA-SBL Chair Ozofu ‘Latunde Ogiemudia, the conference will move past the initial announcements of government policies to evaluate whether recent regulatory shifts are actually delivering real, measurable outcomes. The discussions will focus on checking the effectiveness of changes across several critical sectors, including:
Finance and Economy: Taxation, trade, and digital payments
Energy and Resources: The petroleum industry, energy, and mining
Infrastructure and Governance: Public infrastructure development, data protection, and environmental governance
“The critical question now is not whether reforms have been introduced, but whether they are working,” she said.
The conference will specifically evaluate if these policy changes are successfully strengthening institutions, boosting investor confidence, increasing market efficiency, and delivering real economic benefits.
Ogiemudia highlighted the event as a major milestone, celebrating two decades of driving discussions where law, business, and public policy meet.
Over the years, this annual gathering has become a premier platform for dialogue among regulators, policymakers, lawyers, investors, and business leaders. Past editions have shaped conversations on a wide range of critical issues, including banking, capital markets, competition law, insolvency, technology regulation, governance, sustainability, and infrastructure development.
“This year, we move decisively from reform narratives to impact assessment,” she added.
Oludare Senbore, Chair of the 2026 Conference Planning Committee, stated that the event will serve as a vital platform for deep conversations on policy implementation, investor confidence, and economic sustainability. The goal of the gathering is to generate practical recommendations that will strengthen Nigeria’s business environment and make current reforms more effective.
