Veteran Nigerian actress Shaffy Bello has sparked debate after sharing her thoughts on sex work during a guest appearance on the Morayo show.

Speaking on the programme, the actress explained that she does not judge women who sell sex, particularly those driven by survival or urgent financial demands. She noted that some women enter the trade to support their families, feed their parents, or pay for their siblings' education.

However, Bello also emphasized the need for safety and self-respect, urging women involved to avoid letting it become a permanent lifestyle.

“If what you are doing now is being a ‘runs girl’ to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it, I never judge….If you go be ash*wo, do am well. Do it well with respect and your full chest. However, don’t stay there….If that is what you have to do right now to make a living… Some girls are doing it because they need to feed mom, send their aburo [younger ones] to school. I understand it. However, my darlings, don’t stay there,” she said.
Her comments have since divided opinion online. While some praised her for showing empathy towards struggling women, others criticised her remarks, arguing that she appeared to be endorsing prostitution.
