Nigerian actress and media personality Nancy Isime recently shared her perspective on the critical intersection of wealth, relationships, and marriage.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast, she challenged the conventional belief that emotional connection alone can sustain a partnership through severe financial stability.
While acknowledging the foundational importance of love, Isime emphasized that financial stability plays a pivotal role in fostering a peaceful and enduring marriage, maintaining that romantic affection is rarely sufficient to withstand the pressures of a struggling household.
“Marriage is not a poverty alleviation scheme but I don’t believe marrying a poor man can make you happy,“ she said.
She explained that financial insecurity introduces significant strain into a marriage, noting that couples often find it difficult to nurture their relationship when burdened by the anxiety of meeting essential obligations like rent, school fees, and daily sustenance. According to her, the constant pressure of securing basic necessities can ultimately overshadow love, companionship, and peace of mind within the household.
“When rent is due, school fees can’t be paid and there is no food in the house, it is difficult to have a fantastic life,” she added.
“I am not saying there is no love without money. But love and fantastic life are not the same.”
