​AY Comedian Reveals Why He No Longer Attends Church

 Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, better known as AY, has raised questions about the role of the modern church after disclosing that he was dropped from a church event due to public perception concerns.

Sharing his experience in an Instagram video, AY clarified that his temporary hiatus from church wasn't due to a loss of faith, but rather a need for space while navigating a difficult season fueled by online backlash.

Though he later found a welcoming community at a new church—where the pastor, leadership, and congregation warmly embraced him—he revealed that an initial invitation to participate in an upcoming service was unexpectedly rescinded over fears of negative publicity.

“At some point, I was invited to be part of an upcoming programme. Later, after some internal discussions, I was told I would no longer be participating because of concerns about public perception surrounding me.

“I respected the decision, but I left with a question. When did public opinion become stronger than one’s relationship with the altar and faith?” he said.

The incident led AY to reflect deeply on the true essence of the church, emphasizing that whether online allegations are factual or false, the house of God should always be a sanctuary of grace, truth, and restoration.

Reaffirming his unwavering Christian faith, the comedian referenced Jesus’ timeless call for the weary and heavy-laden to find rest in Him.

“He didn’t say, ‘Come after everyone has accepted your story.’ He said, ‘Come.’ No matter what you’re going through, just come. Even the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God,” he added.

He wrapped up his message by leaving his followers and fellow believers with a thought-provoking question about the true role of the church.
