Deyemi Okanlawon: Why I Quit Acting in 2019

Nollywood star Deyemi Okanlawon recently shared that a lack of creative fulfillment and poor compensation led him to temporarily quit acting in 2019.
Speaking on the CreativiTea podcast, the actor opened up about a frustrating chapter in his career. He revealed that he had initially left the corporate world to pursue acting full-time, expecting the industry to be both financially stable and artistically rewarding.
However, when the reality fell short of his expectations, Okanlawon decided to take a hiatus from the screen and return to a corporate 9-to-5.
“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay and the work were nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9 – 5 work to come and do mediocre work.
“It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work”, he said.
