​INEC Declares Ademola Adeleke Winner of Osun Governorship Election

In a major political shift for Osun State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election. Returning Officer Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole announced the final results early Sunday morning at the state collation center in Osogbo after completing the collation process across all 30 local government areas.

The official figures show Adeleke securing a second term with 511,067 votes (50.8% of the total cast). His primary challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 444,815 votes (44.2%), while African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes. Out of 2,339,233 registered voters, 1,005,800 turned out to vote, reflecting a turnout rate of roughly 43 percent, alongside 20,721 rejected ballots.

This victory marks a notable milestone in Osun State's electoral history. Adeleke, who won his first term in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defected to the Accord Party in late 2025 following internal party friction. By sweeping 19 of the state's 30 local government areas, Adeleke has delivered the Accord Party its first-ever governorship victory in the state since the party's formation.

With the result officially certified by INEC, Governor Adeleke is set to begin his second consecutive four-year tenure at the helm of the Osun State government.
