Davido Fires Back at Erigga Over 'Family Money' Tweet

Prominent Nigerian music star David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has responded to comments by rapper Erigga regarding artists who achieve success without financial backing from wealthy families.
Erigga, born Erhiga Agarivbie, initiated the discussion on X, posting: “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
While Erigga named no specific individuals, the post triggered widespread online discussion, with many interpreting the remark as a reference to artists from privileged backgrounds.
Davido quoted the post to offer a counter-perspective, asserting that musicians from affluent backgrounds also merit recognition for their dedication to building successful careers.
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” Davido wrote.
The discourse subsequently intensified as Davido characterized Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and directed a harsh personal insult toward the rapper, he called him "imbecile."
The Afrobeats prominent figure further suggested he might eventually step away from the music industry to pursue alternative financial ventures.
“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” he wrote.
Davido also challenged public perceptions surrounding wealth, asking, “Deep down, who like poverty?”
