Legendary Nigerian artist Innocent Idibia, known as 2Baba, has prompted widespread discussion after remarking that Nigeria is currently in a better position than it was years ago.
In a recent Wazobia TV interview, the star said he’s still hopeful about Nigeria's growth, even with all the problems the country is facing.
“We are better off than many years ago. Just look at it,” 2Baba stated when the host, Yaw, pointed out that some of the issues he sang about in his classic song “E Be Like Say” years ago appear to be repeating in the current political climate.
The host had remarked, “Now we are back in that political season again, and the same issues are still happening.”
2Baba stood his ground, insisting that real progress has been made over time. He also shared his dedication to the country, calling himself an unofficial ambassador for Nigeria.
“I have personally appointed myself as an ambassador of Nigeria… an ambassador everywhere. I am a self-appointed ambassador of Nigeria to everywhere,” he said.
The singer shared that he plans to keep using his fame to show Nigeria in a good light and help out however he can.
“It’s still ongoing, but I will continue doing it. I will set up my own position and try to make a difference. I’ll try to make it work because I know where I stand,” he added.
2Baba also made it clear that despite his past political involvement, he doesn't plan on running for office. He'd rather stay independent and use his voice to push for change from the outside.
With a career spanning twenty years, 2Baba has always been known for his music about social issues and his habit of speaking up about how the country is run. Now, his latest comments have sparked a lot of debate online.
