Preserving the Legacy: Lyrics Hall of Fame to Honor Nigerian Visionaries
The Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation (LHMFF) is preparing to honour its pioneers and visionaries at the highly anticipated, first-ever Nigeria Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
The event, which will take place in Lagos, Nigeria, is the culmination of years of visionary planning and meticulous groundwork that began in 2009. It is being held to celebrate the global impact of Nigeria’s musical heritage.
The ceremony is scheduled for the week of World Music Day and will be hosted at the prestigious MUSON Centre in Lagos.
This landmark occasion will honour the Class of 2027, an iconic group of Nigerian music legends whose artistry, innovation, and cultural influence have defined the soundscape of Africa and the wider world.
The Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to celebrating the pioneers and visionaries of Nigerian music, aiming to inspire future generations through history, education, and innovation.
Reflecting on the significance of this milestone, Prince Ayodeji Adedeji, Founder of the Foundation and Executive Producer of the Nigerian Music Hall of Fame, stated:
“Our vision is to build a world-class institution, both digital and physical, that safeguards Nigeria’s musical heritage and connects it to the world. This dream was conceived in 2009, and we have remained committed to nurturing it into reality.”
He further emphasised the Foundation’s commitment to establishing a permanent museum to preserve and immortalise the legacies of Nigeria’s greatest musical icons for generations to come.
The upcoming induction ceremony promises to be a world-class production, meeting international standards comparable to globally recognised institutions such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Awards.
“This initiative is long overdue,” Prince Adedeji added.
“From selection and profiling to judging and detailed curation, an immense amount of work has gone into ensuring that Nigeria delivers a Hall of Fame worthy of its musical greatness.”
Beyond the induction of legendary performers, the event will also recognise outstanding contributors from across the Nigerian music ecosystem. This includes both emerging and established musicians, as well as:
- Music producers and composers
- Record label executives, marketers, and promoters
- Music journalists and critics
- Industry entrepreneurs and philanthropists
Recipients in these categories will be awarded the prestigious Nigerian Music Hall of Fame (NMHF) Medallion of Honour in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the growth and global expansion of Nigerian music.
In a move that reflects the global interconnectedness of the industry, the Foundation will also honour international artists and industry figures whose influence has helped elevate Nigerian music—particularly Afrobeats—onto the world stage.
Prince Adedeji expressed his appreciation to global institutions for their role in spotlighting Nigerian talent. He notably highlighted the historic recognition of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, whose legacy continues to inspire generations worldwide.
“Such global recognitions have reinforced the importance of preserving our musical heritage and honouring those who built it. Induction into a Hall of Fame represents the highest honour in an artist’s career—it is the ultimate validation of legacy.”
