Lala Akindoju Speaks Out Against Nigeria’s Kidnapping and Killing Crisis

Nollywood actress Kemi Lala Akindoju has spoken out about the terrifying rise in killings and kidnappings in Nigeria.

In a long post on her Instagram page, she explained that kidnapping has become a normal everyday occurrence, and people are now forced to watch horrific videos of others being beheaded live online.

She asked who is defending the regular people who are losing sleep and living in constant fear and pain, noting that ordinary Nigerian citizens have absolutely no power. Lala argued that if everyone united to hold political leaders accountable, those leaders might actually be forced to do something, or at least pretend to care.

She also questioned why major religious groups, transport unions, and child protection charities are staying silent instead of using their voices to demand change.

She wrote: “I refuse to normalise the state of ki11ings & kidnapping in Nigeria

Women were r&ped in numbers at a festival, people called it tradition. Nothing has happened to the perpetrators.
Kidnapping is now the order of the day.
Life is taken away from people in their numbers. Children & babies are now being taken. We are now watching innocent people get beheaded on live videos, and we are all acting like everything is okay!!!
If that man were your father, husband, or brother, would you still carry on? If you have spent a week without your children, will you still stay silent and say, “It is well”?
All over the country, there are new reports like this daily. We have become jaded, and so far, it doesn’t “touch us”; we are okay. Who is speaking for the people who can’t sleep and are in anguish? Fellow Nigerians like us.
The office of the Nigerian citizen is very weak- all I see are campaigns for another term and primary elections, when one of the core responsibilities of any government is to provide security for its citizens. Or rehabilitation of perpetrators. Sigh!!!
If ALL NIGERIANS hold our leaders accountable, perhaps they will be forced to try or pretend to care.

Reacting to a horrific video of a teacher being murdered, actress Toyin Abraham expressed her deep sadness and demanded to know what the state government was doing to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

Sharing similar heartbreak over the teacher's death, media personality Bobrisky complained that Nigerians are too distracted by the drama involving Chike and Frank Edoho. He warned that Nigeria is in serious trouble—especially for those living in Lagos—and urged people to leave the country for good without looking back.

Meanwhile, actress Ruth Kadiri wrote an open letter to President Tinubu, urging him to either tackle the alarming death toll or give citizens the official green light to protect their own lives and properties. She stressed that there is simply too much death in the country and that being a Nigerian is no longer safe.

Yvonne Jegede also shared her grief, pointing out that only a small group of people seem to be complaining when everyone should be outraged. Describing the recent violence as completely inhumane, she expressed deep concern that the public isn't standing up against it.
