French Defender Maxence Lacroix Joins Chelsea from Crystal Palace for £52m

Chelsea have finalized the transfer of French defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in a deal valued at £52 million.

The 26-year-old center-back has committed his future to the club through 2032, marking the Blues' third major acquisition of the summer transfer window.

"I am really happy to be part of this beautiful club. Everyone knows the legend of Chelsea, its tradition of winning, and to be a part of that is a proud moment," he said.

"When I spoke with the manager, I saw that we have the same direction and desire for this club.

"We want to win. When you see the quality of the players here, everything we have around the club, it's something that we can achieve. The ambition is to lift trophies, and I can’t wait to contribute."

Lacroix becomes Chelsea’s third summer arrival under new manager Xabi Alonso, joining Morgan Rogers and Marco Palestra as the club aims to recover from a disappointing 10th-place Premier League finish.

The defender's profile has risen significantly on the international stage, having earned a spot in France’s World Cup squad and featured three times, including a start in their third-place play-off against England. Palace originally acquired Lacroix from Bundesliga club Wolfsburg in August 2024, with the Frenchman making 98 appearances across a two-season spell at Selhurst Park.

Alonso's summer rebuild is expected to continue with a focus on leadership, as 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck is on the verge of finalizing a two-year move from Brighton.
