Federal High Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Renewed Police Probe Into Mohbad's Death

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit that sought to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho struck out the suit, ruling that the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation lacked the legal standing to institute the action.

The court further described the application as speculative and lacking sufficient merit, noting that the foundation had failed to present the original police investigation report needed to substantiate its claim that the earlier probe was inadequate.

In addition, Justice Omotosho cautioned lawyers involved in ongoing cases against discussing such matters in media interviews or on social media, warning that doing so constitutes professional misconduct.

Mohbad died in Lagos in September 2023 at the age of 27.
